Last update:  05-Jun-2006

Cycling in the mountains particularly has been made popular by big professional rounds like the Tour de France especially when the first radio and television broadcasts began. A lot of (older) people knows stories of heroic stages in the old times with famous riders like Frederico Bahamontes, Louison Bobet, Fausto Coppi, Eddy Merckx and so on. Nowadays a lot of young riders climbs the famous passes to try to do the same as Pantani or Armstrong.
Sites of professional races often contains a lot of interesting information about the climbs, like profiles or pictures.

The 3 big rounds

A few weeks before and during the races a lot of information can be found on several news sites
For information on history and previous versions of these rounds: see history
